Redesigning of gift application

Overview

Gift application is a gift curating app that help the users to find their choices, based on the personality of the person the user wants to search for. The main reason for me to take up this project was to get a deep insight into the UX design process by redesigning the familiar app, which has a poor interface and UX. It may not be used very popularly because this can be one of the reasons. Most common goal was to experience the accessibility problems and how to convert it into a good seamless experience. The project contains detailed research on UX research and analysis, Inclusive designs, Accessibility, UX patterns and models, which can help users to provide them a smooth and enjoyable using experience.

Problem statements

The most common problems includes - most websites or apps do not show the perfect choices for the owners, the searching process again and again in different sites is a very monotonous task and takes very long time, messages and gifts can not be sent all together and there is no way that people can be reminded of getting their friends and family on social media gifts on any occasion.

User research / user stories

In order to build up a realistic user research and user story, I surveyed around 50+ people who tried to get the gifts. some said they could not get the right gift for the exact occasion. Few said, most times they actually speak to the people so to get some ideas. Most of them will like to see a variety of gifts tailored to the personality of the owner of the gift. According to these researches user stories were generated- What people really want is, to directly input the personality of the person and get the desired options, and on the other hand direct linkage to social media's through app. Several questions were studied like; the percentage of people who loves to shop but can't get a proper choice? What percentage of people love to take and receive? Major statements like does selection matters?

Feature set

After going through several researches and covering the pain points, the primary feature set was developed for the app structure in a detailed manner. The feature set includes navigation screens/channels like - onboarding set ups, main screen, smart search, events, visual designs.

User flow

The flow is based on how people are using the online mode of work for their tasks. The tricky part over here was to, engage the users for a convenient period of time, by keeping their self satisfaction to their belief. I wanted to ensure that the process was easy and clear for the user to create a seamless experience. The flow should cover the main pages that a user would need to accomplish their goal.

Testing and Iterating

The time finally came for me to put my works to challenge. wireframes have been created to fully explore the other tasks that would take place within the app. I carried out a number of formative testing sessions to allow for multiple iterations that would further refine the task flows. The key issues found following testing: Confusion with how the previous purchases feature functions, unclear languages used in instructions, clarity around address, order summary should provide enough details. In further iterating I upgraded to high fidelity to replicate a more to true to final product experience.

Low Fidelity wireframes

After putting all the rough ideas in a pen and paper I went ahead in making the low fidelity screens and prototyping them to proceed for user testing. It was crucial to get feedback from the real users before proceeding for the visual designs.

High Fidelity Screens

I went ahead to make the final screens choosing red color since red is highly associated with excitement and optimism.

Conclusion

At the end of the project I was able to design a solution that can help people in making correct choices during selections. I will say, with this we can always improve the solution, based on the users feedback. This project was based on user centric process and this project further solidified that thinking.
